#750020 The Californian Newspaper Publishing Co. As a public service, for the younger generation, there used to be a thing called "newspaper". Little communities nearly always had a local rag which you read religiously to get the news. There was no internet, no radio or TV news, and "newsreels" at the Saturday morning picture show were always a weekor three late. The local alwsys had the police blotter, a chronology of police and fire activity. They carried gossip columns, local ads, school scores and events. You consulted the paper for the movie schedule at the theater. You found the sales and sometimes coupons there. The Californian would have been one of these valuable organs.
